DIY Floating Ledge Shelf

Heres what we started with. Just a salvaged piece of wood from my FIL's farm.

Roughed it up by hand with a sander

Measured and chopped to size

Found and marked our "Studs" aka wood boards that run vertically in your walls, usually around every 16".
Then Drilled a hole in both. Then placed a larger bit on the drill and drilled again, until reaching the size of the "lag bolts" we screwed into the wall that hold up the shelf.

We then got the longest lag bolts we could find, 6", and chopped the head of the bolt off with a grinder.  Install into the stud with a pair of pliers or vise-grips.  Try to get the bolts as level and straight as you can to make sliding the shelf on as easy as possible.
Measure your lag bolts spacing then drill into your wood where needed.

Vwallah! I love it. Perfect for coffee cups! No too much work either.
My kitchen is nothing special now but it's mine so I love it. Just ordered a new faucet yesterday though!
Decked out for Christmas

Scenes from Around My House

Shopped my house yesterday and moved some junk around. Here's a little showcase.
The white quilt was a thrift find yesterday!

Mirror another score from yesterday's thrift store run.

This Pickwick & Company candle is so amazing. The scent is Frasier Fir but it has just a little somethin somethin that keeps it interest. Festive without being too much. I already want to go buy another!

I just love this schoolhouse chair I bought for $2 last summer. I sanded it down some and the color is just so warm.

Here's the first thing I've made with power tools in 3 years.

Thanks again pinterest.
My husband hijacked toward the end and stapled it together because he didn't trust me. Oh husbands.
After 5 1/2 years of Woodshop it felt good to built something again.

Nursery Update #2

My little Baby Bears nursery is coming along. I love starting these types of things way earlier
and just slowly letting them come together.  you get fresh ideas along the way, its not matchy-matchy, and its so less stressful.  I'll try and do a more detailed one when its finished but if you have any questions I'll try and answer just comment.

Here's the ombre quilt I made for the little guy. Again hopefully I can get around to making a post on just it. This quilt was so fun and easy. Took me 2 hours to cut and sew!  The crib skirt is an upcycle from an old bed skirt we didn't use anymore. I used velcro and a hot glue gun for that project :D  I really love how the decal turned out too.

My husband came up with the awesome antler tie backs to hold his DIY curtains. I am in love with them. You can see my curtain post DIY peg board info here

See his side table?
Yeah that came from a tree we cut down a couple weekends ago.
It'll be nice to put a lamp on for night nursing and a glass of water, again for night nursing haha.
I'm really struggling with lamp ideas though :(

7 more weeks till I can smooch and snuggle my little guy! I'm so excited to do this again.
Pregnancy and Child rearing is such a beautiful blessing and God given privilege.

The beginning of a Nursery

Slowly little by little we've been preparing to start preparing a nursery haha. It's been so laid back and slow. Painting for the first time ever took more then a week, the longest previously was two days. It's finally cleared out of all random things and has a fresh new coat of paint on everything. (Ok well except for some paint cans I'm too lazy to put up tonight) My husband was such a trooper and even painted the trim on his own accord.

The paint only took me 3-4 hours total to decide on, no biggie! Haha. Idk what my deal is with deciding on paint. I guess I just hate the process so much I figure I better decide right so we don't have to do it again. We went with "camouflage" by Benjamin Moore. In case you haven't noticed by now I am extremely cheap so it's actually not BM paint. Confused? Well here's a little secret that someone explained to me a while back, Walmart has a color matcher! You can go to a BM dealer and take a color swatch of your liking, drive to Walmart, have them mix it and drive off with $18 paint instead of what $30?

Anyways it's a start. The cardboard "B" is going to be hung above the crib, you'll see more later. The whole feel I'm going for is vinatgey/retro. Really dull colors, chipped thrifted items. Mustard, olive green, and burnt orange will dominate. Ohhhh boys, how different.

28 weeks today!
