Girls Maxi Skirt Tutorial

( UPDATE:
This is an up-cycle. I had that originally in the title but when checking where my traffic was coming from in search engines some people were looking for a combination of the wording I used in the original title. Its very upsetting, especially when "Little Girl" was part of it. I would like to find people like that and publicly humilate them among other things)

I was in the sewing mood.
But I wanted something quick
I dig quick
Quick gets me a finished project Inbetween "nursings"
Quick got me this maxi skirt for my daughter in 15 minutes flat. I didn't even use pins.
I walk on the wild side.

Here's a quick "Tutorial"

Child's Maxi Skirt

Find a woman's knee to calf length knit skirt with elastic waist.
Have your daughter step into it
With your fingers pinch the waist on both hips to where it fits.
Mark the spots on both hips with a pin or a washable marker. Make sure you mark the front of the skirt and back of the skirt on both hips (4 marks)
Now sew the skirt. With jersey knit use a zig zag stitch so the fabric will still have give to it aka stretch.
As you sew down flare the stitch out (as seen in photo above) just a little or the fit will be more like a pencil skirt and not a maxi.
BAM
You're done!

The Hem should be already done but if you're  unhappy with the length you can always raise the hem higher

One Project Down

Finished painting the side table and absolutely love it! Not too bad for and $8 thrift store find. I attached fabric to the front inserts, and spray painted it white since it was dinged up and had that old yellowing paint that so many pieces from other decades have. I should be a Spokesperson for spray paint I love it so much, and believe in it :) Now onto the next ten things to finish in my daughter's soon to be Big Girl room. Bring it on!

Here's the side by side comparison of the before/after (but before I painted it)

A Start on the Big Girl Room

So my daughters growing up/getting kicked out of her room to make room for the new baby. I'm too lazy tonight to tell step by step or explain things, instead I thought I would show you in a series of before/after photos.

It's not done yet and were are kinda taking our sweet time moving here things/clothes into. I thought I would show a little of what we've accomplished so far.

Maxi Skirt Tutorial

This tutorial was so awesome I really loved it. I wish it specified measurements
a little more but I was able to figure it out easy enough.
tutorial that I found through a simple google search.

This knit chevron is kinda what set me off in that search
has the best knit choices i've ever seen and the prices are basically fab.

The skirt was actually an upcycle. I'm sooo cheap that I did the math a 100x and realized that it was going to take quite a bit of fabric to make a maxi and I hate paying shipping. I was actually really nervous about it being my first one and screwing it up and being out ALL that fabric so off to the thrift store I went. I was basically sure I wasn't going to find anything that was long enough for me to use but I came across this super shapeless 90s knit dress. It was perfect for this, I mean I didn't even have to sew a hem! I was however short some inches on the yoga waist part but cutting the size in half (6" instead of 12") worked just fine. You cant see the waistband in the picture because my tank is pulled over it sorry.

Time:
50 minutes I would say

Here's her version. Turned out adorably! Make sure to visit her page and show some love

A Look At My Sewing Room

This room used to be the basement "Living Room," at least that was the title. It was more like the place my husband and I would throw our "unwanted's" or when company was coming and I wanted to get rid of things fast, clutter, and also since it is next to the laundry room, unfolded/ forgotten about clean laundry. I'm just being honest.  Then one day my husband was all, "hey sweetheart, lovely woman, beauty, you should turn this into your sewing room. You deserve a place of your own."
(Thats what I heard in my head when he suggested the idea)
So I got rid of/sold some of the furniture thats olny job was to hold the stacks of crap that accumulated in this room and turned it into a place of my own. It was even my husbands idea to paint.
I really am kind of doubting his selflessness all of a sudden while I type. Im starting to think he just wanted his dinning room back and was tired of eating lint with his meals. :)
Whatever his reasoning I have this beauty now and its made our house flow so much more smoothly.
We even noticed this year that there seemed to be less spiders in the basement and concluded that it was because the basement has had more traffic.

Enough talk heres the Sewing Room

I love this table. It used to be a table in a high school way back when. I love all the markings in it even my daughters initials happened to be in it. It was meant to be. I did however slap the paint on rather sloppily.

Did I mention that every bit of this room was either salvaged, Thrifted, or things we already had!
All I had to buy was interior paint and some good ol spray paint.

Heres a couple of shots of whats happened in this room so far.

My daughter "sewing" while I sew...

made a feminine slip out of an old sheet and some pretty ribbon. Took maybe 15 minutes

Heres the slip under a skirt I made out of a Walmart clearance dress

A sneak peak of a quilt I am working on! more to come soon

I made two of these makeup pouches for Christmas gifts with things I already had on hand.
They can be used simply as brush holders or makeup pouches for travel.
I used upholstery fabric for the lining to make it stiff.
They took me 15 min a piece! No lie. Scouts Honor
I very loosely used this tute.

My very straight lines :)

Heres the backs of the two pouches, you can see the two different fabrics I used.
The left one's cover was made of some really pretty vintage sheets and the tie was an ivory colored ribbon.

Tablecloth Skirt

I made this little number out of the prettiest thrifted table cloth ever. It was a fairly simple upcycle because of how easy/simple "Dana Made It's" Circle Skirt Tutorial. To make this skirt just head on over
